Self-motivated, reliable individuals dedicated to learning the necessary skill set to further their career in the turfgrass industry. Each internship will be based on the individual’s current level of skills and knowledge of a golf course. We will personally tailor each internship experience to areas that we feel the intern needs to grow in. Each intern will work closely with the Assistant Superintendents and Assistants in Training to complete daily tasks and further their knowledge of our maintenance standards. Interns will gain experience in all facets of Turf Management, including but not limited to mowing, rolling, moisture management, fertilizer and pesticide application and calibration, management strategies and record keeping. Interns will have the opportunity to volunteer at professional tournaments during their internship at OHCC. Our goal for every intern will be to have them move into an Assistant-in-Training position at our organization once they have completed their education.

Duration: Variable, 3 to 7 month internships are available

Reporting to: One of the Resort’s (3) Superintendents

Responsibilities

• Become oriented and trained on Resort equipment and safety protocols
• Mow greens, fairways, tees at specified heights
• Perform and oversee ball mark repair program
• Participate in all cultural practices such aeration, verticutting, and topdressing
• Conduct irrigation audits and itemize coverage/operability issues
• Perform irrigation repairs
• Perform chemical applications within the construct of NJ license protocol
• Perform other specialized functions like rolling, blowing, tree maintenance, post setting
• Perform landscaping tasks across 25 acres of meticulously kept grounds
• Learn horticulture, gardening, foraging and composting practices
• Oversee crew of laborers as needed
• Manage special construction or repair projects
• Work with equipment managers and superintendent on best practices

Interns can expect to be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance and will play a major role on our team. Interns can expect to gain experience in daily course setup, mower operation, fertilizer and pesticide application and calibration, irrigation maintenance and repair, topdressing and aerification and crew management. Interns must be self motivated, detail oriented individuals that are aspiring to be managers in the turf field.

Interns would work closely with each of our 11 full time staff members as well as seasonal employees. Our intern class will travel on a number of ‘field trips’ to other Minneapolis-St. Paul courses and clubs and be introduced to their staff and operations. PGA Tour volunteer experience at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities is also provided. Start and end dates are extremely accommodatable. On a daily basis, our interns can expect to be immersed in the following areas of work.

With 16 Properties and 22 18 hole Professional Golf Courses from Scotland to Palm Beach, Los Angeles to Dubai, Trump Golf is home to a collection of the most iconic golf properties and championship courses in the world. This internship opportunity will give students the chance to work at multiple properties in one season. With 11 properties all along the east coast, 1 on the west coast and 4 overseas students will have the ability to work in many different climates zones in one season. Depending upon availability, interns could have the opportunity to work at as many as 3 different properties in one season. Travel between properties is not provided and any overseas internships could be made available after 2nd year of internship completion. Availability and commitment will determined placement and potential of opportunities available. Each property would require a min of 45 but preferred 60 day work commitment, the students overall summer break availability and all internships will be determined on a case by case basis. The applicant should be self-motivated and have a desire to learn and advance in the turf industry. The prospective intern should be willing to work the necessary hours to produce outstanding conditions and maintain a positive attitude.

GN’s Turfgrass Management Internship will cover all aspects of golf course management including daily course set-up, irrigation operation and repairs, routine calibration of spreaders and sprayers, natural/native area management, application of fertilizers and pesticides, turfgrass cultural programs, and various projects.
