The Ecological Restoration Technician works with the Zone Gardener to monitor, document, and map existing strands of invasive species such as Phragmites australies, Artemisia vulgaris, Convolvus arvensis, etc. on a consistent schedule. The Restoration Technician will use appropriate equipment (mowers, brush cutters, string trimmers, shears) to manually reduce current infestations of invasive species and prevent the spread of new strands.

The candidate will work closely with the Superintendent and the turf management team on all aspects of golf course maintenance. The position will consist of fertilizer and pesticide applications, calibration, and training. Other duties will include course set-up, water management, irrigation and drainage projects and troubleshooting. The intern will be part of the decision making process on course management through weekly meetings. The intern will work with the Superintendent on career guidance and goal setting. The position requires a strong work ethic, commitment, honesty, and a positive attitude. Candidate needs a willingness to put in hours as needed (average 45 to 50 hours per week). Typically, we rotate the staff to allow for time off throughout the summer such as weekends and half-day throughout the week.

Position: The Somerset Patriots are hiring seasonal groundskeepers to help with maintaining the playing field and grounds at TD Bank Ballpark for the 2023 season. Candidates should have an interest in sports turf management, be reliable, and have a strong work ethic. No experience is necessary though candidates with prior grounds experience are preferred. Qualified applicants will be asked to set up an initial phone interview followed by an in-person interview at TD Bank Ballpark.
Schedule: Employment runs from 3/20-10/27 and candidates must be available to work full time hours during the season which will include nights, weekends, and some holidays. Non-game day hours are typically M-F 9am-5pm and game day hours utilize rotating shifts. Shift #1 is 9am-4pm and shift #2 is 4pm-11 pm. Hours subject to change based on game schedule or weather conditions. Off days are scheduled when the team is away. Weekends without games or events are off and vacation time is permitted.

The internship runs May-August and interns are responsible for working any scheduled home games and events during the summer plus select non-game days averaging 20 workdays per month. This is an hourly paid position ($14.13/hr) with limited overtime available during game weeks. Ideal candidate should have an interest in working in sports, be reliable, and have a strong work ethic. No experience is necessary provided you are willing to learn and work hard. Internship candidates will have the opportunity to be a part of a golf operation that is continually evolving with various construction projects taking place each year. Interns will work closely with assistant superintendents in all aspects of maintenance of the property including, but not limited to, chemical application, water management, course set up, and mowing.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, reliable, and eager to learn. And has a strong eye for detail with a desire to advance in the turf maintenance industry. There is also the possibility of full-time employment following the successful completion of the internship.

The successful candidate will learn all of the tools necessary to become a successful golf course superintendent, both professionally and agronomically. Candidate will have the opportunity to attend and present at greens committee meetings as well as assist with the budgeting process.
