Shearon Environmental Design is seeking applicants for seasonal internship positions for 2023. Interns will work closely with the Director of Sports Turf and Agronomy and Assistants in all daily maintenance operations. Our staff possesses diverse knowledge of golf course and athletic field maintenance. Many projects will be executed in-house, including bunker renovation, fairway expansion, and golf cart pathway installation. This internship will provide the applicant with the opportunity to build a robust skill set to further their career in the turf management industry. Our first objective is to prepare interns for their next step in development.

The successful applicant will report directly to the Director of Sports Turf and Agronomy at Shearon Environmental Design in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The position will allow the applicant to learn about the agronomics and fundamental practices of providing high-level golf course conditioning in the transition zone on a public course budget.

The position will allow the applicant to learn about the agronomics and fundamental practices of providing high-level golf course conditioning in the transition zone on a public course budget.

Interns collaborate closely with the Superintendent in all aspects of turf maintenance. Victory Ranch Golf Course is a Rees Jones design 18-hole layout stretching over 7,600 yards of mountainous terrain. With over 400 feet of elevation change, sitting at an elevation of 6,800 to 7,200 feet, the course features spectacular views of the Jordanelle Reservoir, Deer Valley Ski Resort, 20 minutes from Park City, as well as the surrounding Uinta and Wasatch Mountains. Consistently ranked as one of the best golf courses in the state by Golf Digest, the course features Bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways, with Kentucky Bluegrass rough, and is lined by native fescues.

Qualified candidates will assist the Superintendent and Assistants in all facets of golf course maintenance, including, but not limited to daily course set up, irrigation scheduling, fertilizer and pesticide calibration and application, aerating, seeding, sodding, hand watering, and managing crews on small projects. A candidate ready to work hard and learn championship conditioning will ensure the success in taking the next step in becoming an assistant superintendent.

Interns, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendent,
perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance; do semi-skilled grounds
construction and maintenance work; operate small hand-powered equipment; and occasionally
perform work involving large equipment such as tractors, loaders and other mowers. Each intern
may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the
golf course and does related work as required.
