Hayfields Country Club was built in 1998, stretches over 7,000 yards, and has hosted six PGA Champions Tour Events that challenged famed golfers such as Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Gary McCord and more. Hayfields is a links style golf course currently with bent grass from tee to green, six ponds and native areas that line numerous holes. Hayfields offers a great learning experience for an intern to achieve new skills and prepare them for entering the golf course maintenance industry. We begin major course renovations and upgrades starting this coming July of 2023 to include new bent grass greens, bermudagrass tees, all new bunkers (Better Billy), and new cart paths. Tons of experience and knowledge can be achieved throughout this process.

efficiently complete tasks at a high level as an individual and a team member. Working on our crew is a

Onwentsia Club prides itself in providing an exceptional golf experience through excellent playing conditions and a clean, detailed course presentation. Interns will be exposed to many important practices to maximize course playability including moisture management, frugal use of fertilizers and chemicals, and various cultura I practices. Interns will work closely with the Superintendent and Assistants on many aspects of the grounds operation. Within the first week, we sit down with Interns to identify their strengths and weaknesses to ensure they get the most out of their time at Onwentsia, as well as for their long-term success in the business. A comprehensive internship curriculum will be reviewed with each Intern to ensure they obtain hands on experience in all essential areas of course management, as well as exposure to other responsibilities of the Assistants and Superintendent. Typical daily duties will include but are not limited to hand watering, daily course setup, irrigation repair and maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide applications, general mowing and course maintenance, and working with crews on projects.

Intern will work closely with the superintendent and his assistants in all aspects of course maintenance.
Areas of intense training will include chemical and fertilizer applications, irrigation scheduling and
maintenance, scouting, tournament and daily preparation and routine maintenance. Interns have an
opportunity to experience all aspects of a high maintenance operation with a staff willing to answer all
questions and share valuable information.

Objectives of Program:

To give a motivated student an opportunity to develop and improve their knowledge in golf course management practices, communication skills, time management, and teamwork. This will be a hands-on experience working closely with the assistant superintendents. Intern will be exposed to all equipment, technology, and practices required to maintain a golf course at the highest level.
